Meet the founder of Roos & Co
Hi, it’s great to meet you! My name is Roos (pronounced Rose) and through this blog, I want to share my personal journey with hormonal health. The truth is that I didn’t know anything about my bodily processes, let alone my hormones, until I was 29 years old.
My story
It was only after 14 years of birth control pills, I felt ready to experience “the real me” without synthetic hormones at 28 years of age.
If only I knew then what I know now about the risks and after effects of the pill..!!
I didn’t get a period for 7 months, but did have significant hair loss, hormonal migraines and extreme acne on my face, back and chest. After a few months, I started to bleed so heavily that 16 out of the 26 days were crossed off. My relationship went downhill, work felt just horrible as I couldn’t concentrate and my gynecologist was unable to find the root cause of my symptoms so she sent me to a specialist. She didn’t tell me this was -in fact- an oncologist uterus specialist. The weeks leading up to this appointment were one of the scariest times of my life.
The specialist was viewing my whole outside and inside on a huge TV located next to me, and I was able to ask all sorts of questions. I found it fascinating, I always had an interest in the human body. When the research was finished, the specialist told me I suffered from hormonal imbalance and the way to cure it is to go back on the pill – the pill that stops the ovulation process and vital hormones too. But I didn’t know that then! So I went back on the pill, because who am I to challenge his recommendation? I didn’t know anything about my body or my hormonal health.
The pill didn’t work for me anymore. New symptoms revealed such as night sweats, vag dryness and anxiety. I felt sure; “there has to be another way than the pill” and so I started to read books, blogs, websites and followed doctors who adapted a holistic approach on healing hormonal imbalances. It got me so obsessed with this topic, that it led me to a study to become a Women’s Hormonal health practitioner and I’m now in training to become a Hormone Therapist, with graduation date scheduled in November ‘23.
The personal (and painful!) experience, plus my newly discovered passion around women’s health, made me found Her Hormonal Health Academy to provide the education plus support you never received at school, yet wished to have. Many women in their twenties and thirties are still not equipped with the right knowledge about their own bodies and hormones and I’m here to change that.
I strongly believe that it is our birthright to receive knowledge about our hormones, fertility and cycle. So it became my main mission to normalize women’s health and the period once and for all!
If you have a similar experience, or want to share yours, feel free to write me at hello@roosand.co. I offer a safe space to listen to your story.
